Nigeria international Anthomy Nwakaeme has extended his contract with Saudi Arabian side Al Fahya until 2024.

The 33 year old  has played for seven different clubs in the course of his career before joining Al Fahya. His highest appearance for a club was recorded with Trabzonspor scoring 40 goals in 119 apperances between 2018 and 2022 before his recent move. Nwakaeme it will be recalled  won the Israeli Premier League best player trophy in 2017.

Along with compatriot midfielder John Ogu and Israeli strikers Ben Sahar and Elyaniv Barda, he led Hapoel Be’er Sheva to a historical series of three Israeli championship titles in a row in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Nwakaeme still desirous of showcasing his skills for the Super Eagles played only ones for the national team, making a debut On 10 November 2017,  for Nigeria against Algeria in 1–1 draw leading to the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

In April 2019, he said he deserved to make a further appearance for Nigeria.

Nwakaeme contributed in no small measure to pulling his club away from relegation zone following recent 2-0 victory over Al Fateh in the Saudi Pro League.

Both  goals came in the second half through the in form Forward Anthony Nwakaeme and Saud Saad A Bin Zaydan in stoppage time (90+8′).

Nwakaeme has now scored in back to back games, and a total goals contribution of three goals and two assists in his last three league matches.

The 33 year-old Forward has also taken his league goal tally for the season to Six in 9 appearances, moving up to second in the goal scorer’s chart.

Next up for Al Fahya is a home game against bottom of the table Al-Batin on January 7.
